Beginners Course

 

 

Level 1

 

 

Course Duration – 3 Months

 

Objective: Understanding Swaras and Singing Easy Patterns of Notes, Swara Sadhana

 

  • Learn to stabilize your ‘Sa’ in accordance with your reference base note.
  • Learn the correct voice production skill.
  • Learn to identify and sing the 7 Shudh Swaras (Major Scale Notes).
  • Learn simple combinations of Shudh Swaras – paltaas and alankaars (Major Scale Notes).
  • Learn to identify the basic Taals/Rhythm and sing simple Alankars (patterns of notes) along the taal/Rhythm.
  • Learn Teen Taal, Jhaptal, Dadara and Keharwa.

 

 

Level 2

 

 

Course Duration – 9 Months

 

Objective: Singing Complex Patterns of Notes, Basic Understanding of a Raga, Singing Chhota Khayal with basic Alaaps and Taans and proficiency with different Swara Patterns

  • Proficiency with singing complex patterns of notes while singing the same in akaar as well.
  • Singing the same with two different ‘layas’, ekgun (one beat one note) and dugun (one beat two notes). 
  • Singing the chhota khayal and understanding and singing simple and basic alaaps and taans (progression of notes in accordance with the chosen rhythm)
  • Showing the Taal with ‘Taali’ (symbolic representation with hands) while understanding different layas. 
  • Singing the following Ragas (chhota khayal) with simple ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’
    1. Alahaiya Bilawal
    2. Yaman
    3. Khamaj
    4. Bhupali
    5. Bhairav
    6. Bageshree
    7. Bihag
    8. Kaafi

 

 Intermediary Course

 

Level 1

 

Course Duration – 6 Months

 

  • Proficiency in understanding the notes including the discreet ones (komal swaras and tivr Madhyam)
  • Singing the complex structure of notes with various sequential patterns.
  • Singing in different ‘layas’ to dugun (2 times faster) and chaugun (4 times faster) while following a particular tempo while singing the paltaas. 
  • Learning to handle and tune the manual tanpura (optional)
  • Bringing more stability in your voice and singing with speedy progressions.
  • Learn to identify a raga quickly by merely listening to a short melodic structure.  
  • Singing the following Ragas (chhota khayal) with proficient ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’

  • Singing the following Raga (bada khayal) with a few ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’

Level 2

 

Course Duration – 6 Months

 

  • Continue learning the following ragas:
    1. Vrindavani Sarang
    2. Bhimpalasi
    3. Desh

 

 

  • Singing the following Raga (bada khayal) with a few ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’

 

 

  1. Bageshree
  2. Vrindavani Sarang

 

Advanced Course

Level 1

Course Duration – 1 Year

  • Deep understanding and proficiency in understanding complex structure of notes combining the discreet ones (komal swaras and tivr Madhyam)
  • Learn to tune tanpura and tabla perfectly in accordance with the base note
  • Understanding and showing different ‘layas’ with the help numbers and notes – It includes Dugun ( singing 2 notes in 1 beat) Tigun (singing 3 notes in 1 beat) Chaugun (singing 4 notes in 1 beat) Aad (2 notes in 3 beats) opposite of Aad ( 3 notes in 2 beats) Paungun (3 notes in 4 beats) and Sawagun (5 notes in 4 beats)
  •   Rendering complex alaaps and taans while singing khayaals, chhota and bada khayal
  • Proficiency in singing both the bada and chhota khayal
  • Thumri and Tappa taal understanding and singing a few thumris is taught during this year
  • Differentiating various ragas and understanding their core
  • Learn to write fluent music notation in both the styles, Pulaskar and Bhaatkhande style of music writing
  • Singing the following Ragas (bada and chhota khayal) with proficient ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’

Level 2

Course Duration – 1 Year

  • Proficiency in identifying the ragas
  • Understanding and implementation of Alpatv-Bahutv, Avirbhav-Tirobhav and Samta-Vibhinnta
  • Recollecting the previous year ragas while attaining greater mastery over the progression of bandish with complex alaaps and taans
  • On stage performance skills including mastery over notes and progression of notes and bandish
  • Rendering complex structure of notes and proficiency to sing the most difficult phrases with ease
  • Singing the following Ragas (bada and chhota khayal) with proficient ‘alaaps’ and ‘taans’
